These are usual comments from many dance students and clients I’ve seen and coached for over three decades. There’s no doubt that those who love to dance will agree that dancing brings a level of happiness like no other modality. What I’ve learned over the years is how crucial it is to strengthen muscles, especially the ones that are used repeatedly when dancing. By dancing, you are building your cardiovascular stamina and strengthening your feet and calf muscles. Depending on the type of dance you perform, other muscles might also come into the mix. It is key to include the rest of your body, both upper and lower, as well as learning to use your core muscles while dancing and performing activities throughout the day. You will be surprised how many times a student gets injured just by making the bed, reaching for an item at the grocery store or picking up their child.
